About the Dojo

Genbukan Training

To be a part of the Genbukan family is to be part of something very special. The core of our martial arts is Amatsu Tatara of which Soke Shoto Tanemura is the 58th generation Grandmaster. This lineage goes back 2,700 years and contains both spiritual and martial wisdom.

Students of the Bansenshukai Dojo begin by learning the fundamentals of Ju-jutsu and Ninpo Taijutsu. Techniques contain both traditional (Koryu) and modern (Gendai) applications. This allows us to understand the depth of what is taught while also being able to properly apply the skills in a modern context.

Classes begin with a formal etiquette, stretching, and conditioning. After students are properly warmed, we practice the skills which correspond to our respective levels. Classes are held in a 'moving meditation'. This maintains safety, allows everyone to develop concentration, and aids in releasing stress.

Who Can Train

Training is available to both men & women. Classes are taught in a fashion that allows each of us to rise to our own skill level.

Progressing

Rank at a pre-black belt level goes from 10th Kyu to 1st Kyu. In order to progress, students perform their corresponding techniques in front of the instructor. A passing grade is at least an 80%.

Many lessons are only learned by the experience of being in class. That is why consistent practice both in and out of the Dojo are important.
